The 2022 World Championship group stage will kick off on the 7th of October in New York City. The teams have already been seeded and drawn into four groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the playoffs.
 Top Esports
TOP Esports take on GAM Esports on October 8 in the second match of Group C in the 2022 Worlds group stage. This match should be quite an action packed, with both teams playing a very aggressive style
Top Esports have returned to the Worlds stage and are the Chinese No. 2 seed in the tournament. The team managed to reach the finals of the LPL where they lost a very closely contested series to JDG.
The team has returned to form after they added Tian and Wayward, with their jungler Tian being able to set up many plays in the early game. Tian is able to create advantages in both the mid and bot lanes to ensure that the main carries of Knight and JackeyLove are ahead of their lane counterparts.
JackeyLove is TOP Esports’s insurance policy and is usually able to carry the team over the line in the late game, with him doing 34% of the team’s damage.
GAM Esports and the VCS have finally returned to international competition after their two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with this being the first international event the VCS has attended since the 2019 World Championship.
GAM opt for a highly aggressive style of play. If GAM are able to secure a lead in the early game, they manage to win the game 90% of the time. The Vietnamese side usually funnels most of their attention towards their ADC, Sty1e.
He is able to use the early assistance to take plates in the bottom lane and translates this control into early dragon priority, with the team taking 1.3 dragons by the 15 minute mark on average.
Gen.G
Gen.G face off against 100 Thieves on October 9 as a part of their first round robin stage in Group D. Gen.G are one of the tournament favorites and should be favored in this matchup
Gen.G is the Korean No. 1 seed and qualified to worlds after winning the LCK summer split over T1. Gen.G is one of the tournament favorites alongside JDG and TES.
Gen.G are not as aggressive as the LPL teams and prefers to play a more controlled style of game and opt to punish mistakes by the opponent team instead of making the plays themselves. Their jungler Peanut is able to link up with Lehends to find advantages for the two star players in Chovy and Ruler. The two of them combine to do 58% of the team’s damage.
Chovy is exceptional in the lane phase and is able to go up 600 gold on average, and is able to build on this advantage to create picks in the side lane.
100 Thieves is the No. 2 NA seed and qualified for worlds after beating EG in the 3rd place decider before losing to C9 in the LCS finals. 100 Thieves have retained the same roster from the 2021 Summer Split and have qualified for worlds for the second time in a row.
The team mainly chooses to play around their mid and bot lanes and leaves Ssumday alone on an island on the top lane and do not send many resources to his lane.
The team is not very aggressive in the early game and does not get the herald very often, with the team only being able to secure the herald 40% of the time in their games.
FBI is funneled gold in the early game and ends the lane phase with a 400 gold lead on average, and is able to use this lead to carry late-game team fights.
JD Gaming
This match is a part of the opening round robin of Group B and is scheduled to be played on October 8. This match features the No. 1 seed from the LPL and the No. 3 seed from the LCK, a clash of two very different styles of play.
JD Gaming is the No. 1 seed from the LPL and they managed to win the LPL summer split in a hard-fought 3-2 victory over TES.
JD Gaming’s jungler Kanavi is one of the best in the world and is able to path creatively around the map in order to gank for his laners or to counter ganks from the enemy jungler. He is a big part of JDG’s early game and is the reason why the team is able to find early leads and objectives like the rift herald.
He is able to direct this pressure towards his bot lane of Hope and Missing and tries to get Hope a lead over his lane counterpart that he uses to take control of team fights for JDG.
Damwon had a lackluster summer season, with the team looking out of sync. They managed a fourth-place finish in the regular season before being knocked out of the summer playoffs by T1 in the semifinals. The team started to show some cohesion in the gauntlet, where they took the No. 3 seed after a win over Liiv Sandbox.
Damwon’s jungler Canyon creates advantages for his lanes and focuses his resources towards the bot side of the map.  The team makes some good macro calls in the early game to find favorable lane matchups for their laners. This helps them secure leads over their lane opponents.
